About Us

Horses have always been a part of the Smith’s background. Tom and Vickie met at the quarantine pens at Fort Campbell Kentucky in 1974. Vickie was putting a horse and a pony at the post ridding stables. Tom was with the Army Rodeo team and had just brought in some bucking stock to the quarantine pens. Horses have been in the family ever since.

The boys, Rick and Brandon, grew up having both been in 4 H, Little britches, and several horse clubs. Now days you can find them operating heavy equipment such as, front end loaders, skid loaders, dump trucks, and much more when they are not at the house roping or ridding a horse.

Tom still ropes when he's not managing his own excavation business or accompanying Vickie to a horse show. Our business, 3/S Excavating which stands for "the three Smith guys; Tom, Rick and Brandon" involves operating heavy equipment which keeps them very busy during the week.  The business has been family owned and operated for 13 years. They do anything and everything connected with dirt moving, digging foundations, backfills, building rock walls and landscaping.

Vickie has worked in several fields from veterinary technician to her present job as a pilot car driver.

The love of animals be it horses, dogs, or cats has and always will play a large part in the Smith family lives!
